"GOODBYE GRANT"

Unfortunately Grant Wolf was taken from us way too soon, at age 56.
But Grant's spirit truly lives on. Grant Wolf lives on in the memories of
his students and friends. Because of Grant, hundreds of his former students
- now in all walks of life - still carry within them a deep appreciation of music
and the arts. Those of Grant's students who now teach, remember Grant's
teaching style and pass along the lessons they learned from Grant - on to the students of today. And Grant's former students who still are playing music - bring a little bit of Grant Wolf's magic into every performance.

And so this great teacher's legacy continues on...

This audio is "GOODBYE GRANT", composed by Ladd McIntosh. This performance is the M.C.C. Alumni Band playing at the 2003 Grant Wolf Tribute Concert. This is a deeply emotional piece of music for many listeners. The beautiful soprano sax soloist is Gary Foster. Also spotlighted is Bob Washut on piano. "Goodbye Grant" was one movement of the four movement "The Last Suite Mesa" that Ladd wrote in memory of Grant. You can hear the entire Suite as recorded by Ladd's L.A. Big Band on his "RIDE THE NIGHT BEAST CD". A GREAT CD (!!!) which also contains "Suite Mesa Two" which was written for Grant's MCC band in 1982.

The 2003 M.C.C. Alumni Band was:
Ladd McIntosh - Director, Composer. Guest Artist: Gary Foster - Soprano Sax, Alto Sax, Flute, Clarinet.
Saxes: Hugh Lovelady, Barry Black, Steve Marsh, Kregg Barrentine, Jerry Donato.
Trombones: Vince Wedge, Deborah Weisz, Birch Johnson, Jeff Martin (Bass Bone).
Trumpets: Fred Forney, Tom Miles, Jim Henry, Scott Yandell.
Piano: Bob Washut, Bass: Jack Radavich, Drums: Dick Weller, Guitar: Ted Goddard.

"THE SAGE" by Bob Washut

Disbelief
Denial
Contemplation
Acknowledgment
Resolution...

Your silent knowingness
cast an aura of omniscience

Your caring and nurturing ways
touched countless lives

Your acts of kindness
reflected your generosity

Your integrity
was beyond reproach

Your sense of humor
made you real

Your life
is your legacy

Your spirit
will live in each of us

I'll miss you, Oh Sage,
more than you--or I--ever could have imagined.

-Bob Washut
